Celebrate Beatrix Farrand’s 150th Birthday with a paper flower craft and a string quartet concert!
Featuring the Garden String Quartet
Free chamber music concert performing music written by female composers in the early 20th century in celebration of the 150th birthday of Beatrix Farrand in 2022! We will celebrate her trailblazing legacy by presenting a concert of composers who premiered works during the era of our garden at Bellefield. Bring a blanket or a chair, a friend, and some refreshments for a lovely day in the garden!
The Hudson Valley based Garden String Quartet features Megan Gould and Kathryn Aldous (violins), Karen Waltuch (viola), and Alex Waterman (cello). Colleagues of many years, these friends have formed a quartet to celebrate the 150th birthday of Beatrix Farrand while exploring the anniversary through the music of Farrand’s contemporaries. Performing works by notable female composers of the early 1900s, the quartet hopes to bring pioneering women to the forefront of this auspicious anniversary.
Come early at 11:30am with garden lovers of all ages to make paper peonies with our Horticulturist to celebrate the 110th anniversary of our garden and our historic peony collection! Bring a sack lunch and enjoy the garden in full spring peak bloom before the afternoon concert at 1pm.
